China hits US with 84% tariff after Trump hit China with 104% tariff as market turmoil continues

The US-China trade war, sparked by US president Donald Trump's tariffs, looks like it is just beginning, with global markets set to be on a roller coaster for weeks; China has now retaliated further.

US president Donald Trump is proposing to raise tariffs on Chinese goods by a further 50% than those already announced to a staggering 104% as the trade spat between the two giant trading nations intensifies the tariffs would take effect from midnight US time on Wednesday, April 9. 

Trump's decision, in a April 8 White House executive order, adding 84% onto existing 24% tariffs instead of 34%, came after China retaliated with a decision to slap 34% tariffs on US goods from April 10 after Trump unveiled sweeping tariffs on countries around the world last week in a sign that it is not prepared to backdown, China...
